The Chapleau Crown Game Preserve is the largest preserve of its kind in the world. The Preserve plays a vital role in replenishing many species whose populations are stressed due to habitat destruction, and human encroachment.
To generate revenues the Government of Ontario aggressively markets logging contracts to multi nationals where vast regions of the province are clear cut. The devastation of the boreal forest has increased at an alarming rate.
Nature preserves, provincial parks and the Chapleau Crown Game Preserve play a crucial role balancing the devastation from clear cut logging and other types of habitat destruction.
The Government of Ontario allows clear cut logging in the Chapleau Crown Game Preserve and in Missinaibi River Provincial Park. Tell the Province of Ontario that this mismanagement of our natural resources must cease. Please sign my petition.
Dear Premier Wynne and Minister McGarry:
The signators of this petition are deeply concerned about the destruction of habitat through clear cut logging in our Province gernerally.
More specifically we are alarmed that the Government of Ontario continues to allow clear cut logging in and around the Chapleau Crown Game Preserve and Missinaibi River Provincial Park.
The Preserve and the Park provide a nursery to replenish species at risk due to habitat destruction through clear cut logging in the region.
Habibat destruction through logging in and around the Preserve and the Park destroys the ability of many indigenous species to replenish their dwindling populations.
We therefore petition the Ontario Government to cease issuing tenders and/or cotracts to log in and around the Chapleau Crown Game Preserve and Missinaibi River Provincial Park and, to rescind any such contracts where logging has not yet commenced or completed.
