A Petition To Ban the Possession of Shark Fins in the State of Virginia

The increasing global demand for shark fin soup has become the major extinction pressure for shark species world-side. The international community has failed to adequately address this problem, and individual American states (led by Hawaii) have responded by banning the possession of shark fins and in so doing have made the consumption of shark fin soup illegal, reducing the demand.
We are committed to furthering this effort by bringing a similar legislated ban on consumption to the state of Virginia, where the act of finning is prohibited in state waters but fin possession is still legal.
