Is There a Better Way/Path for Horses to Work in New York City?

I love horses.  I am also aware of their power and weaknesses. The lastest horse carriage flip motivated me to start this petition to ask:  "Is there a better way for horse carriages to work in New York City?"  I agree that horses should not be in nyc traffic as this is a danger to them as well as to their passengers, other vehicles and even people on the sidewalk.  Man-made machines should not replace these majestic creatures and have them sent to the glue factory or used as horse meat!  Any suggestions are welcomed!  Thanks!
