I need your help to change the adoption schedule of the dogs from the Bucharest public shelters.
In Romania, everything is done to discourage the potential adopters, so we must demonstrate there are enough good people who are willing to offer these dogs a second chance.
At present time, the adoption program of ASPA facilities is Monday to Friday from 10:00 until 15:00. Who can afford to go during working hours to adopt a dog? Who can take a leave of absence from work to travel 80 km (round trip) from Bucharest to ASPA Mihailesti to adopt a dog on a Monday afternoon with hectic traffic? Apart from the road, there is the matter of waiting in line for several hours before you are allowed to get in.
The ASPA facilities are very similar to maximum security prisons and the access is extremely difficult. You are allowed in after a long queuing only upon leaving at the front desk your identity card and the tour of the shelter is accompanied all the time by an employee, rushing you continuously and prohibiting you to take any photos.
On the road to ASPA Mihailesti there are no road signs to guide you either to Mihailesti city or to ASPA Mihailesti. If you don’t obtain the GPS coordinates from ASPA website and use a GPS there is little chance you will get there.
The adoption program we are suggesting should be at least on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10:00 to 18:00.
Otherwise what is the point of advertising adoption if nobody can go to ASPA facilities to adopt those dogs? They will be sentenced to a sure death and until that moment to the horrific conditions of the shelter.
The methodological norms of Law no. 258/2013 are proposing a revised adoption schedule of the public shelters: daily between 10:0-18:00, legal holidays included, but they are still at a draft stage and until then many dogs don’t stand a chance in those extremely poor conditions.
Thank you for your help!
Dear Mr. Treeroiu Bogdan Cristian, General Manager of ASPA
Dear Mr. Sorin Mircea Oprescu, Bucharest General Mayor
We, the undersigned, animal lovers and concerned Bucharest citizens address you this petition letter in order to raise awareness regarding the adoption schedule from ASPA facilities which we find completely unreasonable, making very difficult for potential adopters to reach the designated facilities within the ASPA adoption hours, thus diminishing the chances of dog adoptions.
We suggest you amend the schedule at least with the following adoption program: Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10:00 to 18:00.
At present time, the adoption program of ASPA facilities is Monday to Friday from 10:00 until 15:00. We ask you: Who can afford to go during working hours (08:16 or 09:17) to adopt a dog? Who can take a leave of absence from work to travel 80 km to ASPA Mihailesti (round trip) to adopt a dog on a Monday afternoon with a hectic traffic? Apart from the road, there is the matter of waiting in line for several hours before you are allowed to get in.

Please change the ASPA dog adoption program in order to facilitate the access of potential adopters.
Thank you!
