When you go to the beach, you can expect to see plenty of seagulls circling ahead and combing the sand in search of fish, crabs, insects, or even human food to eat. I'm sure we've all experienced the presence of one of the birds as we unwrap a sandwich or open a bag of chips, and we've all learned to be careful and pay attention -- they're just looking for food and doing what their instincts tell them!
But on a weekend in July, one beachgoer in New Jersey chose violence over carefulness. When a seagull swooped in to munch on some of his daughter's fries,
he grabbed the bird -- and ripped its head off with his bare hands.Sign the petition to bring this violent person to justice!It's hard to imagine what witnesses
saw that day. The pure barbarity that this man displayed must have been terrifying.
Apparently, after he murdered the poor seagull that had simply been acting out of hunger, the man approached staff at a beachfront business while
holding the dead, bloody seagull, asking them for a trashbag. Reports say that even after he had carried out his cruelty,
the man was angry, difficult, and was actually first arrested for disorderly conduct. He was later charged with third-degree animal cruelty.
Clearly, this individual has some grave anger and control issues, and the fact that he took them out on an innocent animal should be extremely concerning. He did so in front of his young daughter, too.
If he is allowed to continue on without any real consequences or repercussions, who knows what the object of his next violent outburst will be. Another animal? A person? A child?What we do know is that authorities have a responsibility to prevent this man from ever doing this again. That's why we're asking that, in addition to any punishment applied to his animal cruelty charges, this man must be sentenced to mandated mental health counseling. We're also demanding that he never be allowed to own animals. Any pets in this person's care obviously face too much risk.
