The deadline for the reopening of slaughter houses in the United States is only a few days away. Thus, signatures to this petition need to come fast and furiously. The idea of any horse or pony being subjected to the cruel and unspeakable horror of slaughter is more than I personally can bear. We cannot sit passively by and allow the shedding of the blood of American horses on American soil. Transport may indeed be horrific, but slaugher is death. Slaughter is never a humane death, it is a barbaric one. All of the equines are not meant for human consumption. They are companion animals, with memories and love for their loving humans. How could anyone send them to such a hellish death? There can be no slaughter of the American Icon. This cannot be allowed to happen.Please, the clock is ticking quickly. Sign now.

RE: Please stop horse slaugher in NM, IA and anywhere else
Dear President Obama, Mr. Tom Vilsack, Secretaray, USDA, and Mayor Del Jurney:
Please respect the wishes of the signers to this petition and those of the 80% of Americans against horse slaughter and stop not only the August 5, 2013 renewal date for horse slaughter in the United States, but any slaughter of American horses at any time. This must not happen. There is no "humane" slaughter but a horrric one. Horses are companion animals, they are not meant to be slaughtered. They are the American Icon. Please do not let this happen. Valley Meat et al are taking advantage of the time before the 2014 budget goes into effect to kill our horses for profit. Stop all who wish to engage in such horrific, inhumane and unnecessary activitiy.
