Save Borneo Pygmy Elephants from Extinction

  • av: Nyack Clancy

Ten endangered Borneo pygmy elephants were all found dead in an industrial tree plantation in  a Malaysia's Sabah state on Borneo island over the last year. The first elephant died on Dec 29 and more continued to be found dead, with the last death on Jan 24.

Sabah environmental minister Masidi Manjun said Tuesday that the elephants probably were poisoned as the department waited for the chemist report to establish cause of death to see if they were intentionally killed, or whether the poisoning occurred due to natural factors, such as plants producing toxins in the area or pesticides.

Fewer than 1,500 Borneo pygmy elephants exist. Take action to protect them from extinction.
