The loss of natural habitats, increased exposure to gardening chemicals and aerosols and declining variety in nutritious food sources are just some of the reasons bee populations may be in decline. It is important, to prevent colony collapse disorder, that bees are therefore afforded refuge in urban areas, particularly when this has displaced their original 'homes'
Local governments already create parklands, wildlife strips and urban habitats, why not ask them to devote some attention for structures for bees!
A simple proposal could involve a woodstack, planting wide variety of plants to attract bees, or employing organic maintenance practices for keeping weeds under control and growing plants in these areas!
It could be a good community project !
