The deputies that entered the home just outside of Albuquerque, New Mexico could never have prepared for what they witnessed --
a true house of horrors.Dozens of animals, suffering or long dead, and a perpetrator who allegedly was abusing more than just animals.

but among the crammed, filthy possessions were the decomposing bodies of dead animals. Authorities counted at least 10 lifeless forms, some in
such stages of decay that they couldn't even be identified as one species or another. What a gruesome, heartbreaking way for an animal to be found.
Nearly 20 other animals were found alive and thankfully were rescued from the home. But these poor creatures didn't escape without serious "signs of physical neglect." It will be a long journey of physical and mental healing for these babies, but they're safe now.
And while their abuser has been charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty, the story doesn't end with these animals.
Apparently, the home belongs to an elderly man also living there…who was possibly being taken advantage of by this woman.There are allegations of this woman
"taking out a reverse mortgage on his home" as well as keeping "important mail, phone calls, and documents" from him. The victim is blind, and also claims that there is
no running water or heat in his house because of this woman's negligence. Adding the hoarding conditions and herds of neglected animals onto that, one can only imagine what a
horrible situation this man is in.
It is a good start that the animals have been saved and that this woman is being rightfully charged for her crimes against them. But she is clearly still a danger to animals and humans alike, and that likely won't change without mental evaluation and serious therapy.
