On the 10th of July 2013 another act of brutality and animal cruelty took place on the island of Crete, Greece. 23 dogs that were being cared for in a shelter run by the local welfare society volunteers in the town of Siteia were killed by poisoning.
Local police are understaffed and struggling to cope within the limited resources available, but are nevertheless attempting to get to the bottom of the crime by organising postmortem examinations and sending samples to Athens for analysis. But they admit this matter is unlikely to be given high priority. THIS MUST CHANGE!
We call upon the local authorities - municipal as well as police - to give the issue of animal cruelty greater attention and resources. There must be more arrests and successful prosecutions. Only then will the message be communicated effectively to the local population:
CRETANS ARE A NOBLE PEOPLE WITH A PROUD HISTORY AND CULTURE. WE DO NOT RECOGNISE ANIMAL CRUELTY AS PART OF OUR IDENTITY.

Στις 10 του Ιουλίου του 2013 γίναμε μάρτυρες άλλης μιας πράξης βαρβαρότητας και απανθρωπιάς στη Κρήτη. 23 σκυλιά που φιλοξενούνταν στο καταφύγιο της Σητείας από τον τοπικό Φιλοζωικό Σύλλογο δηλητηριάστηκαν.
Η αστυνομία Σητείας δηλώνει ότι υπολειτουργεί, λόγο έλλειψης επαρκούς προσωπικού αλλά παρ’ όλο αυτό κάνει προσπάθειες να ερευνήσει το έγκλημα, οργανώνοντας νεκροψίες και στέλνοντας στην Αθήνα δείγματα για ανάλυση. Όμως παραδέχεται ότι είναι απίθανο να δοθεί υψηλή προτεραιότητα στο συμβάν. ΑΥΤΟ ΠΡΕΠΕΙ ΝΑ ΑΛΛΑΞΕΙ.
Καλούμε τις αρχές της Κρήτης – δημοτικές όσο και αστυνομικές – να δώσουν στο θέμα της προστασίας των ζώων περισσότερο βάρος και πόρους. Είναι απαραίτητο να γίνονται συλλήψεις και επιτυχημένες διώξεις. Μόνο τότε θα περάσει το μήνυμα στους πολίτες:
