Veterans from 1976-1980 Denied Membership in American Legion

Veterans who served in the Armed Forces of the United States are being denied membership into the American Legion. We are being told that it is Congress who controls which Veterans are eligible to join the legion. We are asking that our Congress recognize the service of the Veterans serving during this period. We signed a blank check payable to the United States up to and including our lives. We were committed to defending the country in the event of war. We were Blessed that no war was declared during this time. We understand that the VFW is for Veterans of Foriegn War. We understand that Combat Veterans served in combat. We don’t understand or accept that we are Veterans who can not join and support an organization supposedly for American Veterans.
