Although almost all schools have music and other arts courses within their schools. Since the early 2000's, there has been a rapid decline in the prevalence of such curricular in public schools. The passing of bills such as the No Child Left Behind bill (passed under President George W. Bush), has led to a dominance of academic courses in schools, leaving music and arts courses to fall to the wayside.
Academic courses should (and probably always will be) the most important part of a student's education; however, many educators believe that having music and arts as a part of an education will help any student. There are several studies which clearly state students who had music and arts within their education scored significantly higher on their SAT's than those who did not. In a sense, music and arts education is seemingly imperative to students' educations.
Should there be no room for these music and arts courses within indivudual schools' curriculums, perhaps there are other ways in which such courses can be implemented: by way of extracurriculars, clubs, and other similar activies. The main goal, of course, in each of these, is the presence of music and arts courses in every students' life.
By signing this petition, you agree that music education and its decline should cease, and that there should be laws in place in order to stop this rapid disappearance. As this education is important, we should do anything we can to protect and preserve its position in schools today.
