Let grass verges grow wild flowers on side of roads

Many people love to drive down the town and country roads with vibrant colours from the flowers that are growing, most of the time they are short lived as they are cut at certain times of a month. In some areas you can tell the contractor is very sentimental about letting the flowers grow (for example down the road from me on the way to my family there is a road that grows quite a lot of Cowslip which the mower goes round, year on year the Cowslip comes back in higher numbers, and it looks beautiful)

On the other hand certain plants, like Thistle, Nettles, Dock, etc are considered weeds by people who generally complain to the local councils that it looks like scruff land. Most of the "weed" species are extremely helpful for insect and bird species and we believe councils should ignore these complainers and allow certain if not all areas to become well grown with wildflowers.

It may also be considered that its dangerous due to visilability at junctions and things like that, but with clever management the lower ground growing plants can be utilised in these areas. Once wildflowers have taken over the ground they usually manage themselves better than the mowing method.

Help save the birds, insects and small mammals and give them refuges and corridors between town and country roads, they have a hard enough job crossing these roads. Dual carriageways are a great example of larger tree and shrubs creating homes for wildlife, but this petition is about the smaller animals, a nicer appearance and easier management.
