Tell House Democrats not to give Johnson any votes for speaker. Let him fail.

Speaker Mike Johnson could lose that top job when the House votes on January 3rd. If he loses as few as two Republican votes, it could be enough to deny him a necessary majority.

Democrats should let him fail.

In the last session, Democrats often provided essential "yes" votes for specific critical legislation supported by Johnson, to offset Republican defections. And there was generally a reasonable argument for that in cases where failure would have been catastrophic (shutting down the government, for example).

But Johnson has been a terrible speaker, almost always doing the bidding of the right-wing extremists, and rarely seeking compromise, even though the House is nearly evenly split between Republicans and Democrats.

If Johnson is short on votes, there will be tremendous pressure on Democrats to provide enough to put Johnson over the line.  And they should resist it.

Tell House Democrats not to give Johnson any votes for speaker. Let him fail.
