We the people Want Lisa P. Jackson to be removed/resign as Head of the EPA. She has failed to take stewardship and oversight responsibility for the Gulf Oil Spill. On her watch, BP dumped 1.8 million gallons of dispersant into the Gulf, despite the EPA requirement to ramp down usage. Corexit use increased after the EPA issued its requirement and she did nothing about it. The tests conducted of the dispersant corexit indicate that the dispersant is toxic. The EPA has no knowledge of the long term consequences of its use and no proof other than the word of its owner and user, BP, that it serves any purpose. In fact, most scientists agree that the use of dispersants has a negative impact on the recovery of the Gulf.
Lisa Jackson failed to alert, or to seek approval from, the communities and people who would be most impacted by the dispersant. As has been noted in a open letter by leading scientists, the people of the Gulf are unwitting participants in scientific experimentation of a massive scale. This is unethical, immoral, illegal and goes against every scientific principle that Lisa Jackson would have learned in her training. She also has determined, again without reference to the country and its people, that the animals of the Gulf, from the plankton to the sperm whales, are expendable and by failing to enforce her own requirements and by defending the decision to use corexit, she has determined the fate of many species that will now go extinct, in direct violation of the endangered species act. She was hired to enforce the environmental laws of our country but instead has knowingly and willfully violated them. She has demonstrated unequivocally that she is unfit for the position she holds.
