Fathers Cutting Umbilical Cords at South Tyneside

A policy has been in place for ten years at South Tyneside Hospital (Tyne and Wear UK) which denies fathers the right to cut the umbilical cord at the birth of their child.  This policy was put in place after an accident and the Trust will not review the policy or make exceptions.

As a father directly impacted by this decision I would like your support in getting this policy reviewed for the benefit of all fathers in the area.

We the undersigned ask that you reconsider the policy of the Trust which does not allow fathers to cut the umbilical cords of their children at birth.

We believe this to be a very important part of the birth process for fathers and feel that it is deeply unfair to deny fathers this experience.
