Cameroon, Stop the Elephant Slaughtering

UPDATE: Officials in the Bouba Ndjida National Park now say that death estimates are closer to 480 elephants in this one park alone. The death toll is continuing to rise and will devastate the elephant population in Cameroon. Please share to help these precious elephants!

Mongabay.com reports that these elephants have been killed for their tusks and that these ivory poachers are Sudanese. These poachers are going into the Bouba Ndjida National Park from Chad and killing these protected elephants.

With Cameroon's elephant population estimated at around 1000- 1500 elephants, this recent slaughter is a devastating loss to the population. Furthermore, these elephants were supposed to be protected as they were in a national park.

Tell the government of Cameroon that they need to do more to protect their elephants and put a stop to this atrocious elephant slaughtering.

We the undersigned sincerely ask the government of Cameroon to do more to protect their fragile and decreasing population of elephants. Recently, over 200 elephants were slaughters for their ivory in less than a month. This cannot happen as the number of elephants in Cameroon is only between 1000 and 1500. Furthermore, these elephants were in the Bouba Ndjida National Park and they were supposed to be protected.

Please do everything you can to protect these valuable animals and stop their unnecessary slaughter.

Thank you.
