Include a Family Planning Provision in the Next Health Act
- por: Care2
- destinatário: U.S. Congress
An important family planning provision disappeared from the economic stimulus package just before it passed the House. President Obama requested its removal because, according to his spokesperson, "while he believed the policy of increased funding for family planning was the right one, that he didn't believe this bill was the vehicle to make that happen."
The provision would have deemed that states no longer need to get waivers to cover family planning on Medicaid - a provision that would have eliminated government red tape and expanded basic health care coverage to millions of women. As more and more women lose their jobs, such provisions are critical for Americans.
The stimulus package may not be the right vehicle, but we need to make this provision law soon! Urge your senators and representative to include this family planning provision in the next health care act that comes before them.
Dear Congressperson [Name],
I read with dismay that President Obama asked for the family planning provision to be removed from the upcoming stimulus package. While I understand the attempts to make the recovery bill only focus on economically stimulative provisions, I urge you to include this provision in the very next health care act that comes before you.
The provision would have deemed that states no longer need to get waivers to cover family planning on Medicaid - a provision that would have eliminated government red tape and expanded basic health care coverage to millions of women. As more and more women lose their jobs, such provisions are critical for Americans.

I urge you to ensure that this provision becomes law as soon as possible.
