Urgent Petition to End the Cruel Dog Meat Trade
Dear World Health Organization, United Nations, and ECOWAS,
We are writing to bring your attention to the cruel and barbaric dog meat trade in Africa and other developing countries. This practice inflicts immense suffering on animals and poses significant health risks to communities, including the potential for zoonotic disease outbreaks such as rabies.
Dogs are loyal companions and play an important role in many cultures as protectors and helpers. Subjecting them to inhumane treatment and slaughter tarnishes global efforts to promote animal welfare and human dignity.
We respectfully call on your organizations to:
1. Advocate for the prohibition of the dog meat trade through national and regional legislation.
2. Educate communities about the health dangers and ethical concerns of dog meat consumption.
3. Support initiatives to develop alternative income sources for those involved in this trade.
The time to act is now. Ending this cruel practice will not only protect animals but also safeguard human health and promote compassion in our societies.
We trust in your leadership to address this urgent matter and take decisive action.
