Denmark's Copenhagen Zoo caused outrage last year when they euthanized a healthy giraffe and dissected it in front of guests, including children. Now, another Danish zoo called the Odense Zoo plans to dissect a lion cub on Thursday. They have planned the dissection to coincide with a school break to ensure that as many children as possible may view the gruesome display.
Like the giraffe, the young lion was healthy and killed because of zoo overpopulation. Unfortunately, this is not just a problem in Denmark. Thousands of animals are euthanized each year in zoos across Europe where managers feel that preserving a species is more important than the individual animals. They see nothing wrong with killing an animal due to lack of space, old age, or poor health.
The Odense Zoo needs to understand that their obvious lack of respect for individual animals' lives is unacceptable. Please sign this petition to urge the Odense Zoo to stop killing animals for no reason, and cancel their plans to dissect this lion!
