Celebrate legendary recreation director and community leader Joe Trapasso by signing this petition to name the recreation/senior center in his honor. In 1957, under Joe's inspired leadership the community of Branford came together in an unprecedented grassroots campaign to build what would become a nationally recognized recreation center. Based on the principle of inclusiveness, the recreation department was groundbreaking in the expansiveness of its programming, serving all segments of the population.
Naming the newly renovated recreation/senior center after Joe T. acknowledges his nationally recognized leadership in the field of senior programming, as he helped 35 towns establish senior centers.
In 1981, Joe oversaw the dedication of the building to the Veterans of World War II, a recognition that would continue with the proposed name: The Joe Trapasso Community House dedicated to World War II veterans. Joe was a proud World War II vet himself.
Bill Ahern, long time sports writer, once wrote, "It is doubtful that no one person has ever done more to promote Branford's good name throughout the nation than has Superintendent Joe Trapasso." In a town that has a proud tradition of naming buildings after those who have made significant contributions, it is time to do this for Joe.
