Fire Ant Nests are Threatening Queensland's Koalas

An alarming discovery of red imported fire ant (Rifa) nests in part of the critical Daisy Hill koala bushlands poses a severe threat to local wildlife – especially vulnerable koalas. These invasive ants are notorious for their lethal impact on humans, native species, and ecosystems. Immediate and effective action is crucial to prevent these pests from establishing a foothold in koala habitats.

Sign this petition to urge Queensland authorities to intensify fire ant suppression efforts and ensure the safety of koala populations.

A local resident encountered five fire ant nests within this key conservation area, dangerously close to the Daisy Hill koala sanctuary. Despite reporting these findings, the government's response has been inadequate.

This situation highlights a significant gap in current pest management strategies, especially with the looming two-year gap before official eradication efforts are set to begin in this zone. Authorities should not treat this threat lightly.

The presence of fire ants in koala reserves is not just an ecological emergency but a direct threat to one of Australia's most beloved species. Without urgent and aggressive action, the situation could deteriorate, leading to more wildlife casualties and irreversible damage to our natural heritage.
