My friend, Lily, has been going to an Arts school, Booker T. Washington and she's in the second semester of her Junior year. She contacted me about an issue she has from her parents. They're deciding to move her to a different school after concerns with grades. Despite clearly making a case that she only feels at home at Booker T. Washington and she needs to stay there to catch up on studies pertaining to the arts and academics at the school, her parents are still focused on her grades and believe moving to another school during her Junior year will change her GPA. That does not seem like the case to me. Moving to another school will be murderous on your GPA at this point in the year. She would miss out on everything that a nationally well-received arts school (that is Booker T.) will offer throughout the years and any classes she has already stayed committed to. She cares about the classes she's chosen, and will only receive the Visual Arts training, along with the academic familiarity/help at Booker T. She's grown accustomed and friendly to the teacher's assistance there, and makes strides learning on her own time from them even after hours. But, really, I'm concerned because of seeing how this is going to affect Lily. She hasn't left yet and she's already going to miss the only part of her day where she feels truly at home. Every time we talk, she doesn't seem to have any joy anymore, and can only stay determined to do anything she can to stay there. This school means more to her than I could imagine. I'm going to start this petition to say if there is anyone at Booker T. who will help her make the case that she needs to stay, please show your support.
