Tell Your Representative: Vote NO on National Abortion Ban!

The GOP has authored a bill that would ban abortions after 20 weeks nationally. Please sign this petition to voice your disapproval of this infringement on bodily autonomy -- signing will send an automatic letter to your representative!
The House will vote on H.R. 36 this Thursday, January 22, the 42nd anniversary of the Supreme Court's Roe v Wade decision, which secured women's right to an abortion nationwide.
As soon as Congress kicked off its 2015 term, Reps. Trent Franks (R-AZ) and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) introduced the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which is based on the scientifically inaccurate claim that fetuses can feel pain after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
ThinkProgress reports later abortions are already very, very rare, and make up just 1.5% of all abortions nationwide. Keep in mind, patients almost never have this procedure without careful thought and consideration to their financial, physical, and emotional situation -- abortions after 20 weeks typically only occur when a woman is desperate, such as when she discovers serious fetal health issues or when low-income women have been forced to delay abortion as they must save up money for it. And no matter what a woman's reasons, the state must respect individual rights and not tell women what they may and may not do with their bodies and lives.
The GOP needs to stop infringing on women's right to choose. Please sign this petition to tell your legislator: Vote NO on this invasive and unnecessary bill!
To my legislator:
Please vote NO on H.R. 36. misleadingly called the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. This bill erodes a woman's right to choose and infringes on her bodily autonomy.
This bill is unnecessary, as the claim that fetuses can feel pain is scientifically inaccurate. In addition, late term abortions make up just 1.5% of all abortions nationwide. No one has this procedure without careful thought and consideration to their current financial, physical, and emotional situation -- abortions after 20 weeks typically only occur when a woman is desperate, such as when she discovers serious fetal health issues or when low-income women have been forced to delay abortion as they must save up money for it.
The state should never infringe on a woman's right to choose what happens in her own body and life. I urge you to vote NO on the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.

Huge news! The vote on the National Abortion Ban has been delayed! The bill would have banned abortion after 20 weeks, allowing exceptions for rape ONLY if the woman reported it to the police - something many women are unable to do. That rape provision was too extreme even for some anti-choice politicians - but this is only a partial victory. GOP leaders have promised to bring back the bill soon, still trying to ban choice after 20 weeks. Please share this petition with anyone who might sign!
