Help Preserve the Eastside of Lake Winnipeg
The government of Manitoba made a recent decision not to construct a High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) hydroelectric transmission line in the last remaining large intact boreal forest on the Eastside of Lake Winnipeg, located in Manitoba, Canada.
This area is remote and populated by several First Nation communities, who still practice, for a large part, their traditional harvesting activities that are protected under the Canadian Consitution.
In addition, a 4.3 million hectare region on the Eastside of Lake Winnipeg is now being proposed, and supported by four First Nation communities in the region, as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The UNESCO World Heritage Site proposed for the Eastside of Lake Winnipeg would protect the habitat of the last remaining herds of endangered Woodland Caribou in Manitoba from large-scale resource extraction activities.
The Official Opposition Party in Manitoba has undertaken a campaign to get the government of Manitoba to reverse its decision with respect to not constructing a HVDC hydro transmission line down the eastside of Lake Winnipeg.
We are asking the global community to show its support for the government of Manitoba decision to not proceed with the construction of a HVDC transmission hydro line down the eastside of Lake Winnipeg and protect and preserve the eastside of Lake Winnipeg by proposing to create a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the region.

We the undersigned, support the decision by the government of Manitoba not to construct a HVDC hydro transmission line down the Eastside of Lake Winnipeg.
We believe this decision by the government of Manitoba will help to protect the constitutional rights of Indigenous People living in the region, allowing them to practice their traditional harvesting activities.
In addition, we fully support the efforts by the government of Manitoba and the effected First Nation communities to seek the nomination of a 4.3 million hectare area on the Eastside of Lake Winnipeg as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in one of the last remaining large intact areas of the boreal forest in Canada.
