Death in Driftnets, Gillnets, Shrimp Trawling Nets Over 150,000 sea turtles die from shrimp trawling in the Earth's waters each year. Shrimp trawl boats drag nets that capture shrimp as well as every other living thing in their path.
It is an obscenely wasteful fishing method.
Ten to forty pounds of non target ocean species, which includes endangered sea turtles, are killed for every one pound of shrimp harvested.
That's not all. Hundreds of thousands of sea turtles also die each year in driftnets, gillnets, and longlines.
Let's say no the shrimp industry, and yes to helping extend the life of sea turtles.
They were here 100 million years before humans...scientist say they may be wiped out in the next ten to fifteen years.
