Celebrity chef Rachael Ray donated $500,000 to the ASPCA to help fund an emegency boarding facility in NYC for pets displaced by Hurricane Sandy.
The ASPCA, located in Manhattan, has opened a 20,000-square-foot shelter location in Brooklyn thanks to the donation.
Almost 80 pets are still in evacuation centers with their owners and the shelter is for animals whose owners are unable to care for them while rebuilding their lives.The ASPCA is running the facility with city and federal officials. It will be open for 30 days.
