I live in Redwater, a suburb of Texarkana,Texas. We in this part of the country(the SOUTH) have been fighting the overpopulation explosion of dogs and cats for many years, as well as all the abuse, neglect, dumping and abandonment which are all byproducts of this problem!!
There are many rescue groups here who trap, vet and transport hundreds of dogs a month up north to be adopted! All on our own dollar, too. Sadly, there are thousands more who are not that fortunate.
Our hearts are breaking, as all of this good we do is still not a drop in the bottomless bucket of the poor cats and dogs out there! Our efforts to SPAY AND NEUTER sometimes seem in vain when we are constantly in an onslaught of more needing saved,
I am a member of a team called TACT (Texarkana Animal Coalition Team) which was meant to help the situation but so far has not managed to make a difference. To top it all off we have NO ANIMAL SHELTER on the Texas side of Texarkana, and lost touch with the Arkansas side years ago due to differences in laws.
Our local leaders who have the power will do nothing to help in any way, whether it be laws or financially.
We are begging you to make FEDERAL LAWS to ENSURE THIS STOPS! As long as our local laws are in control, this will NEVER CEASE!!
