We Need a National Commission on Children's Safety NOW
Every child deserves a happy and safe childhood. But for too many, including the 20 young lives lost in Newtown, CT, that isn't a reality.
That's why Save the Children is joining forces with our partners and people like you to call on President Obama and Congress to establish a new National Commission on Children to ensure the safety and well-being of every child. We need your help to urge President Obama to speak to this critical issue in the upcoming State of the Union Address on February 12. Time is of the essence.
We are calling for a real commission, with a real mandate, and a real deadline for action. One that is driven by the needs of children, works to keep them safe, and that brings everyone to the table for this critically important conversation.
Take action today, join with us, and call on President Obama and Congress to make this happen.
Our Partners:
We are proud to partner with The Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation, Catholic Charities USA, Child Care Aware® of America, Children's Health Fund, Every Child Matters, First Focus, Girls Inc., Harlem Children's Zone, KaBOOM!, National Association of School Nurses and Share Our Strength to help keep America's children safe.
On behalf of America's children, we call on President Obama and Congress to establish a new National Commission on Children to:
- Create a national policy on children;
- Set goals for protecting children's well-being, including reducing poverty and violence; and
- Monitor progress on stated goals.
Kids are growing up in a different world - it's time for bold, new ideas. We can safeguard our children from violence at home and in school. We can ensure that all kids, especially those living in poverty, reach their full potential. We can do more.
If we can, we must.
