Terrifying New Study Finds "Big Increase" in Amount of Microplastics Making Their Way Into Our Brains. We Need to Ditch Single-Use Plastics, Now!

We have known for some time that microplastics are making their way into our food and drinks and therefore, into our bodies. But a shocking new study has revealed a rapidly worsening problem: microplastics and nanoplastics are increasingly building up in our brains.

When comparing the brains of subjects who died in 2024 vs. those who died in 2016, there was a 50% increase of these plastic particles.

We cannot delay action any longer. Join us in demanding that major grocery store chains Walmart, Kroger, Costco, and Whole Foods stop carrying products that are packaged in plastic that is invading our bodies and brains!

The majority of the plastics found during this study were nanoplastics, which are narrower than a human hair. They were mainly from "polyethylene, which is used in plastic bags and to package food and bottled drinks."

Because of their infinitesimally tiny size, nanoplastics travel from our food, drinks, and environment into our cells, bloodstreams, and organs. Some studies have even identified nanoplastics and microplastics in human placentas and breastmilk, meaning we can pass these along to the next generation of children -- before they've even ingested these tiny plastic particles for themselves.

Additionally, plastics are manufactured using a variety of chemicals, and are themselves made out of fossil fuels. Plastics deposited in our bodies have been linked to cellular and endocrine disruption. This is what is now lodged inside our bodies, and they don't disappear. The particles just build up more and more inside our systems.

No generation on Earth has ever faced this level of plastic pollution or plastic usage. And now it's having a frightening effect. Luckily, there are alternatives to plastic. Some are new technologies, like compostable products, and others have existed for generations, including the use of metal, paper, and glass instead.

That's why we're asking major food retailers to push the industry in the right direction. If Walmart, Kroger, Costco, and Whole Foods all commit to zero-plastic packaging, they would be making a huge dent in the plastics that are breaking down and invading our bodies.
