Dear President Bush and Secretary Norton:
I am writing to urge you to be honest with the American public about the health and environmental impacts of snowmobile use in National Parks, and to uphold the original ban on snowmobiles in Yellowstone National Park.
I am concerned about a recent internal report prepared by Yellowstone staff that shows that four-stroke snowmobiles emit enough noise to cause hearing damage. This new evidence of snowmobile’s negative impacts on human health, combined with the decades of scientific studies that led to the original ban on snowmobiles under President Clinton, should be more than enough proof that this ban is in the best interest of park employees, visitors, and wildlife.
Please release to the public all information on the health and environmental impacts of snowmobiles, and uphold the original ban on snowmobiles in Yellowstone National Park.
Thank you,
