The "grandpas of the sea", Greenland sharks are known as some of the longest living animals on Earth. According to researchers, they can live up to 500 years. That means, the ones alive today, could have likely "witnessed" the ascension to the throne of Queen Elizabeth I in 1558, the signing of the Constitution of the United States in 1787, the issuing of the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, Neil Armstrong land on the moon in 1969 and America's first black president in 2008.
But despite surviving all these incredible events, with just the flick of a knife, one harmless Greenland shark was brutally killed ... for fun.
Two cruel idiot fishermen off the coast of Greenland filmed themselves torturing one of the endangered animals. The fishermen were out at sea when the shark's tail got caught in their line. Instead of unhooking the protected fish, they dragged it to the side of their boat and then filmed themselves laughing as they cut off its fin.
The two buffoons then released the doomed shark back into the sea as they joked around, showing their faces in the camera. As the shark struggled to survive, the men yelled "Good luck trying to swim, you punk!"
The video soon went viral and now all of social media is up in arms and demanding justice for what the cruel fishermen did.
Some people may shrug their shoulders at this story and say "It's just a fish" but every animal, every living thing deserves to be treated humanely. These men tortured this shark. It's unacceptable.
Greenland is an overseas territory of the Nation of Denmark. The country has some of the strongest animal welfare laws on the planet according to World Animal Protection. It is clear that these two men should be punished for what they did.
