We need your help in Oregon, please! In October, 2019, veterinarian Dr. Daniel Koller was charged with aggravated animal abuse for directly causing the death of Bleu, a 7 month old dachshund. Dr. Koller is still practicing today. We want his license suspended. Please sign and share petition.

On June 5th, a beautiful, friendly, beloved family cat named Jack was abducted off his own porch in Vancouver, WA, by two teen-aged boys. The abduction was caught on home surveillance video. The boys on video were identified, but they claim they let the cat go in another location. Police report was filed in Washington.  Cat has not been sighted again.  Help us find Jack! https://www.facebook.com/IPawdItForward/videos/453944395168057/

HOW CAN WE PREVENT THIS KIND OF CRIME?

  • In every state, pets are considered property. In Washington state and most other states, the level of theft (felony/misdemeanor) depends on the market value of the animal.  This means that if a cat's adoption fee is $50.00, that's their market value, equalling misdemeanor theft in WA. This designation equates sentient, living beings with not much more value than an old used bike. This gross devaluation of family members has to stop. Petition legislators to give animals "special value" more than "mere" property. Cite Oregon Supreme Court cases.
  • In neighboring Oregon, all animals have "special value," and are included automatically in the felony theft property law. In the last 5 years, Oregon Supreme Court has set a precedent ruling in a number of cases that animals are more than "mere" property. This is a start. We need animal abuse laws to catch up. Petition legislators to raise first degree animal abuse to a felony.
  • All animals in every state should have "special value," not the market value of inanimate property! That's why we do have at least one felony animal abuse law in all 50 states. This is a start. Petition your legislators.
  • In 2017, the FBI noted the seriousness of crimes against animals and added a separate category to NIBRS to track such crimes. States need to investigate, charge and report these crimes for this database to work toward its goal. Citizens need to pressure legislators to get laws in the books, so authorities may pursue crimes like this. Animals are worth so much more than their market value!
  • We can change this! Please petition your state legislators to give all animals "special value" more than mere property!

Thank you for continuing to share this petition. Oftentimes, a printed out copy of a petition will help influence the powers that be to take some kind of action. The case has been referred to juvenile authorities. Still no charges, yet. Still no sign of Jack. I Paw'd It Forward is fielding tips and getting fliers out there to the community. Thank you for helping.

Thanks for continuing to share this petition! This is a critical time. The police have referred some misdemeanor theft and trespassing charges for the teen to the DA in Vancouver, WA. We need to be the voice of Jack here! Let's make them hear us! It is up to the DA to decide if there is enough evidence to charge the teen. What we all want is to find Jack, and maybe a charge will help. Good news the local paper did a story on Jack. https://www.facebook.com/thecolumbian/posts/10157270638546506?
