Petition to the Contra Costa County Board Of
Education:

Adopting West Contra Costa Unified School
District Trustee Area "June 4" Map

We, the residents of the West Contra Costa Unified School District sign this petition to show our support for the "June 4th" trustee area map and our opposition to the Board's decision of choosing the "Cities and Schools Map B." By signing this petition, we ask the County Board of Education to reverse the Board's "Cities and Schools Map B" decision, and to uphold the community supported decision of advancing the "June 4th" map.

The reasons for our opposition are as follows:

More community members preferred the "June 4" Draft map over other maps during public comment at WCCUSD map hearings.

From the two trustees who voted for the "June 4th" map, one attended all four public info sessions, and the other attended two. None of the trustees who voted for the "Cities and Schools Map B" attended any of the four public informational meetings.

The "June 4" Draft Map is the only trustee area map presented that follows precinct boundaries. The Contra Costa Registrar has stated that he would not break up precincts for WCCUSD trustee areas.

The "Cities and Schools Map B" includes areas that are predominately white and more affluent in the African American trustee area. This goes against the intent of the California Voters Rights Act by diluting the vote of minorities.

By Federal law the Voting Rights Act requires majority minority trustee areas. The "June 4" map is closer to this goal than the "Cities and Schools Map B".




Nosotros, los residentes del Distrito Escolar Unificado del Oeste de Contra Costa firmamos esta petición para demostrar nuestro apoyo al mapa de "4 de junio" y nuestra oposición a la decisión de la Mesa Directiva de WCCUSD de elegir el "mapa de ciudades y escuelas B." Al firmar esta petición, pedimos a la Junta de Educación del Condado que revoque la decisión de la Mesa Directiva "ciudades y escuelas mapa B", y que defienda la decisión de la comunidad qué apoya en el avance del mapa de "4 de junio."

Las razones de nuestra oposición son las siguientes:


Varios miembros de la comunidad prefirieron el mapa de "4 de junio" a través de otros mapas durante el comentario público de las audiencias del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Oeste de Contra Costa.

De los dos miembros que votaron por el mapa de "4 de junio", uno asistió a las cuatro sesiones de información públicas y el otro asistió a dos. Ninguno de los miembros que votaron por el "Mapa B de Escuelas y ciudades" asistió a ninguna de las cuatro sesiones informativas públicas.

El mapa de "4 de junio" es el único mapa dela área de miembros presentado que sigue los límites del recinto. El registrador de Contra Costa ha declarado que no rompería precintos para las áreas de los miembros de WCCUSD.


El "mapa de ciudades y escuelas B" incluye áreas que son predominantemente blancas y más afluentes en la área que dominan más los afro-americanos. Esto va en contra de la intención de la ley de derechos de los votantes de California diluyendo el voto de las minorías.

Por ley Federal, la Ley de los Derechos de Votantes requiere mayoría/minoría área de miembros de WCCUSD. El mapa de "4 de junio" está más cerca de este objetivo que la de "Ciudades y escuelas Mapa B".
