Help Florida Veterinarians End Breed Discrimination!
A group of South Florida vets thinks Miami-Dade County should reverse its 23 year ban on pit bulls. Armed with formidable research, the South Florida Veterinary Medical Association argues that breed specific legislation does not make communities any safer.
The group cites a 2012 American Veterinary Medical Association study that analyses forty years worth of reported dog bites In Europe and North America. The study shows that, across the board, breeds historically targeted for prohibition are no more likely to bite than other dogs.
Miami-Dade County's pit bull ban wastes a lot of tax dollars and prevents would-be pet owners from adopting even the gentlest, most worthy pit bulls. In the county's shelter, pit bulls are segregated from the other, adoptable dogs, and flagged for destruction.

Breed specific legislation is not fair to dogs or their owners, causes heartbreak, and prevents even the most even tempered dogs from being adopted from shelters.
