Many people get pleasure in hunting and killing deer and it is allowed in various parts of the country. Although I am one of the few that is not in agreement of any activity that harms animals, there is never a reason to cause them undue pain and suffering. Such is the case in Lakeway, Texas.
A program currently exists that allows hunters to trap and kill deer in painful, horrific methods. They are then carried away upside down on their way to their slaughter. Some of the deer also endure painful shots in the head, often with an arrow, leaving the animal to bleed to death. There are many other cruel methods in place by these hunters. The Citizen Advocates for Lakeway Deer (CALD) have conducted a thorough investigation into these traumatizing practice.
My effort is to encourage better, safer, more humane methods of “controlling” the deer population in Lakeway. It is never acceptable to cause undue and enduring pain and suffering to any animal and the current methods of this trapping program needs to stop. With this petition, the hope is to speak out to the Lakeway City Council and urge immediate changes to this deer trapping program. Lakeway City Council – After reading the recent reports and current video footage covering the handling of the “surplus” deer trapping program. The current program describes a method of luring the animals into traps, netting them, pinning them to the ground and sawing off their antlers. They are then hauled abusively for miles to their slaughter, often shot in the head. I feel appalled that these hunters would be allowed to terrorize deer, who are prey animals, when humane wildlife-exclusion methods are readily available. Why would such cruel practices be allowed? The plea is for you to end this deer-trapping program in addition to conducting a census of the deer population, and implementing a humane means of dealing with wildlife.
