Sexual assault is one of the most common violent crimes; and it affects post-secondary students more than any other segment of the population. Over one in four students are sexually assaulted during the course of their post-secondary education; and more than 80% of sexual assault survivors are women.
Whereas there currently does not exist a clear and accessible policy regarding sexual assault at Concordia University;
Whereas services relating to sexual assault, including survivor support and perpetrator accountability at Concordia University are extremely limited and inaccessible;
Whereas Concordia University, as an institution of higher learning, should be leading the way to creating a safer and more egalitarian society;
We, the undersigned, ask that the university
-provide a permanent space on campus for a sexual assault centre
-dedicate permanent and sustainable funding for the operations of the sexual assault centre
-implement mandatory sensitivity training programs for Security and Counselling and Development staff as well as any other member of Concordia University who expresses interest
-enact clear and accessible policy relating specifically to cases of sexual assault at Concordia University
