It was just another work day. Cleaners showed up to a rental unit in Chicago where they were supposed to clean an apartment between tenants. The most recent tenant - a children's doctor - had been evicted, and had left items behind when she left.
In the bathroom, they found the ex-tenant had left something unusual and alarming: a plastic storage bin - where
a dog had been shoved and locked inside, barely able to breathe.
Sign the petition to demand justice!A small black Portuguese water dog named Betty had been trapped inside the bin
for quite a while. Her fur was completely matted. Her body was
covered in sores and urine burns, and clearly emaciated from malnourishment.
Her only way to breathe was through a tiny hole that someone had made in the container's lid. Yet, she was determined to stay alive. Rescuers later said they believed she survived because
she ate her own feces.Rescuers took good care of Betty the dog, and she's now been adopted out to a loving and responsible family.
Since the eviction, the doctor had left the state of Illinois for Florida, where she had begun living. That's where authorities apprehended her, and she's since been charged with aggravated animal cruelty.
But if someone is this cruel to a small, defenseless dog, how can they continue to treat children as a doctor?
The Illinois and Florida medical boards must review this pediatrician's license in order to protect children from her negligent, abusive care! Sign the petition!
