It is a disturbing fact that there are so many dogs left without homes and loving families to care for them and such is the case in Bali. To resolve the issue, a cull or slaughter of these poor defenseless animals has been ordered to get these animals off the streets. The fear is that many of these dogs have rabies and could pass the disease on to other animals and humans. You can read more on the issues and concerns regarding these animals at http://www.ifaw.org/united-states/get-involved/stop-mass-killing-balis-dogs?ms=UOND4160202500&cid=701F0000001IQt0&mailid=13779626&af=91Zxjy5xiU5VFSZlrzYmO3SdNrKINnvds%2BtFTTHBeEFhq5WTRMlm3pNxf%2FAIXSXG%2FdSapUzN9yz%2BlVeJgBXPCoW191jPi2b8ztrtBQ%2BNhpc0Qc2KWm1napoDwHXhAH%2BwVGOHBGPwLxu3zWICF6mOullcDqI57NOCF3eewWS6mCuoTZronPbWwtvvV4QgPT6GM7TEkUAZA7e7ScBMgbXvJz9tRDNVmOSauyr1ynH5wTQ%3D&utm_source=SilverpopMailing&utm_medium=email&spMailingID=13779626&spUserID=MTYzMzg5MzE1MjQyS0&spJobID=721630717&spReportId=NzIxNjMwNjk3S0
The report on this issue shows that piles of dead dogs are readily seen on the side of the road like tossed trash. The animals appeared to be poisoned by darts, suffering agonizing deaths. This is a shocking display of animal cruelty. Rather than develop other methods of curing the issue of rabies and the overwhelming problem with homeless animals, who are there to no fault of their own, it seems to be much easier for the Bali government to send out killing teams to slaughter the animals. We need to speak out in defense of these animals and say that a dog cull is not the answer but rather choose a vaccination regimen to safeguard human and animal health.
My effort through this petition is to target the Governor of Bali and express concerns regarding the slaughter of dogs as a means of controlling rabies. Fact is that human and animal health experts have proven that such a cull can actually spread the disease, not to mention be cruel and inhumane. Additionally, many of the dogs killed have already been vaccinated for rabies and/or are rabies-free. Instead, we plead for the government to urgently implement a regular, comprehensive dog vaccination program that will protect the dogs and people while maintaining the honor the value of these dogs have to the people of Bali. Such a program would only enhance this country’s international reputation and be the most effective way to ward off potential health risk to humans and other animals along with needless cruelty and animal suffering. You can help me on this journey by signing and sharing this petition, adding your own thoughts and comments in favor of the animals without a voice.
Governor of Bali, I Made Mangku Pastika – I strongly urge you to stop the slaughter of dogs in Bali as a means of stopping the spread of rabies affecting animal and human health.
