Dear President Obama and Interior Secretary Jewell,
I am writing to ask you to protect Boulder-White Clouds -- a magnificent region of land filled with over 150 alpine peaks that reach over 10,000 feet in central Idaho -- by proclaiming it a national monument.
Boulder-White Clouds is the largest unprotected, roadless, forest landscape left in the lower 48 states and one of the most stunningly beautiful landscapes anywhere.
This region looks nearly how it did when Native Americans were the only ones that called this special place home. The headwaters of four major rivers are found here and threatened species like the wolverine, bull trout, Chinook salmon and plants found nowhere else on earth call it home!
I applaud the recent designation of Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks in New Mexico. I want you to know I fully support actions like this that protect our wilderness heritage and that protect more of our nation's special places.
There is already strong support for this monument designation from local communities in Idaho. Conservation, recreation, business, community and local leaders have worked for years to bring greater protection to the region and a monument designation will not only protect this special place but grow the local economy as well.
