The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has set enforceable limits on six types of PFAS in drinking water, but these regulations do not address all forms of PFAS, leaving thousands of these toxic chemicals excluded from testing and potential regulation.
These "forever chemicals" are in everything from food to fabrics, causing serious human health risks and contaminating drinking water across the country. It's time for Congress to address this huge public health problem by passing the PFAS Action Act.

Toxic chemicals called PFAS have contaminated the water supplies of communities nationwide, and the EPA has failed to protect the public. I urge you to take swift action to address the public health threat of PFAS contamination and support the PFAS Action Act.
The PFAS Action Act would set clear definitions and timelines on enforceable regulations to limit the amount of PFOA and PFOS – the two most studied PFAS compounds — in drinking water. It would also:
- Designate PFOA and PFOS as hazardous substances;
- Require the EPA to place limits on the industrial discharge of PFAS;
- Provide $200 million annually for wastewater treatment;
- Require PFAS health testing; and
- Hold the biggest polluters accountable for cleaning up their PFAS contamination.
Long-term exposure to PFAS chemicals is associated with health problems, including birth defects, thyroid disease, weakened immunity, liver malfunction, and certain cancers. Water contamination from PFAS is impacting millions of people in communities across the country.
