Oppose large-scale selloffs of California's public lands!
The U.S. Department of Interior has announced plans to work with the Department of Housing and Urban Development to "study" the sale of public lands that collectively cover an area larger than the city of Los Angeles, supposedly for use as "affordable housing". This is a blatant attempt to privatize our shared lands and deny Californians public access to landscapes and recreational opportunities that belong to all of us.
Public lands also provide us with beautiful experiences, clean water, wildlife protection, and billions of dollars in economic benefits each year. Selling them off does nothing to fix the housing crisis. Instead, it hands our outdoors places over to private developers trying to make a quick profit.
The vast majority of public lands are NOT SUITABLE for low-income housing due to factors such as remote locations, lack of access, and the absence of necessary infrastructure. Moreover, the Bureau of Land Management already has the authority to sell or transfer small amounts of public lands, including for low-income housing development.
Tell your member of Congress to oppose any public land selloffs and support bipartisan efforts to protect our lands for future generations.
I am completely opposed to any large-scale selloffs of California's public land, including attempts to disguise public land selloffs as a way to create affordable housing.
