According to Spokane Public School Civility Policy 5117 effective 7/28/201, Section 1. “The Spokane School District believes that a safe, civil environment is essential to high Student and staff achievement, to the free exchange of ideas central to a quality educational process, and to the development of youth as thoughtful participants in our democracy. Conversely, uncivil conduct, like other forms of disruptive behavior, interferes with the student’s ability to learn and a school’s ability to educate its students.” The current atmosphere at Salk Middle School emulates the send statement of this policy section.
Consequently, we are starting this petition to have Carole Meyer dismissed from Salk Middle School, Spokane WA for being an administrator that is incompetent, unrealistic, uncommunicative, dishonest and a bully to staff, students and all those who do not agree with what she thinks. As parents we have heard and witnessed many incidents of Carole Meyer’s style of putting unrealistic goals on the teachers and students at the school. Carole Meyer does everything last minute with no sensitivity to those around her. Mrs. Meyer is deeply disrespectful towards her staff. She is extremely unprofessional and lacks effective leadership skills making her an ineffective principal at Salk Middle School.
As parents we have seen that the middle school teachers are already overworked and wearing many hats on campus and giving 100%. Yet Carole Meyer puts more unrealistic goals and projects on the teachers and gets them to do what she wants through bullying tactics. Mrs. Meyer does not treat all staff at equal levels, she clearly delineates between those in her favor and those not. Thus those that are not in her favor suffer under her leadership and some have left the service of Salk Middle School. As parents witnessing these acts, we disagree with these tactics and influence. We parent have witnessed new programs such as“ICAN”, inclusion model, standard base grading and a new math curriculum established with no prior notification, training or support for the teachers. Even McDonalds staff members receive more training and notification of changes than has been afforded to teachers of Salk Middle School. Since Carole Meyer has begun her tenure at Salk Middle School the entire atmosphere of the school has changed from a positive safe place of learning to a negative and hostile work environment for the Salk community. Her implied threats to students and teachers as well as excessive punishments has led students and teachers to fear retribution, thus creating an even more negative and hostile climate. Carole Myer has created a non-trusting work place by focusing on specific teacher’s styles and achievements while ignoring or harassing others. The only resolution at this point becomes a replacement of Carole Meyer with a principal that will help change the environment back to a safe place of committed positive learning that nurtures staff and students in a positive, progressive style.
We parents are continually hearing of these incidents from our students and seeing these things happen before their eyes. Parents have complained many times to Administration and yet as to date nothing has been resolved satisfactorily. Parents and relatives of students have asked to start this petition to have Carole Meyer dismissed in order to get another principal at the middle school that shows sensitivity to students and teachers and works to create a better learning environment. We parents believe teachers that are overworked and that feel threatened by their principals are not able to be the best they can be in the classroom and our children will suffer the consequences.
Carole Meyer was a principal at Rogers High School and after doing a little investigating we found that many of the teachers on Rogers campus have little respect for her as a principal. She was viewed as disorganized, incompetent, a bully, and lacking leadership qualities. Does this sound familiar? How does a woman who has such a history become a principal at our middle school? It is time for a change.
