We are asking our elected officials in Washington to introduce legislation to protect the wild horses in Theodore Roosevelt National Park located in Medora, ND.
The wild horses in Theodore Roosevelt National Park are NOT protected under The Wild Horse & Burro Act. Because they are NOT protected under the Wild Horse & Burro Act, we believe that they equally deserve federal protection. The wild horses that reside in Theodore Roosevelt National Park are proven to be historically significant to the state of North Dakota. Their current lack of protective legislation means that they rely upon the National Park Service and the management of Theodore Roosevelt National Park to determine what the best methods are for controlling the population of this herd. This is being done without the using any scientific and genetic data causing the herd to lose significant bloodlines and also threating their health and viability.
We, the undersigned citizens from across the United States and within the state of North Dakota, are concerned about the preservation of the wild horses that reside in Theodore Roosevelt National Park. These horses are truly a treasure for our state, as well as to tourists visiting the state of North Dakota. We feel that it is important that this cultural resource be maintained for future generations.
We are calling upon Senator John Hoeven, Senator Kevin Cramer and Congressman Kelly Armstrong to introduce legislation that would protect the wild horses in Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
