Demand Sustainable Energy in India

India needs clean, safe water. But many of its rivers and waterways have become polluted and others are in imminent danger of being polluted due to overuse for washing and waste disposal.

Despite the scarcity of fresh water in India, new coal plants are proposed which will tax the water supply a great deal more. Greenpeace opposes building the new plants and has conducted a study to show that the new plants will devastate India's water supply. India has a great alternative source of energy in which it has already started investing: solar power. Please join me in asking the Parliament of India to enact a moratorium on new coal plants and schedule a phase out of existing coal plants as solar power infrastructure is developed.

To the Parliament of India:

I was disappointed to learn that several new coal power plants are scheduled for construction in your country. Such plants will further strain your already severely depleted supplies of fresh water. I'm sure you know that the people of India need clean, fresh drinking water to survive. It makes no sense, therefore, to use up what supplies of water are left. Please continue to invest aggressively in solar power as an alternative to coal, and enact a moratorium on new coal plants and schedule a phase out of existing coal plants as solar power infrastructure is developed.
