Beagles Blinded, Killed: Investigate University of Missouri Lab

Earlier this year, the University of Missouri conducted a concerning study. Testing an experimental acid on the cornea, researchers intentionally blinded several Beagles. When the test failed, six of the dogs were killed.

Over 60,000 dogs are used in research labs in the United States right now, and about 9 in 10 of them are Beagles. The Beagle Freedom Project shed light on this atrocity when sifting through published research from U of M. Kevin Chase, vice president of the Beagle Freedom Project, said of the incident: "This research was flawed before even one dog was procured, blinded or killed." He also referred to this particular instance of animal cruelty as the most troubling he's come across in years of this work.

This study, along with many others conducted across the country, was funded by taxpayer dollars. Before University of Missouri continues to receive taxpayer funding for its animal research labs, they should conduct a full investigation. This conduct was unacceptable and U of M should go to great lengths to prevent anything like it from ever happening again. Sign now to demand an investigation into this University of Missouri research lab.
