We are petitioning THE CHICAGO PARK DISTRICT to allow leashed dogs in the New Maggie Daley Park (Old Daley bi), north end Grant Park including adjacent pathways of Cancer Survivor's Plaza and Peanut Park (where tennis courts are being relocated.)
We are in support to ALLOW dogs and NOT restrict access in these areas that we have had access to for over 38 years. Restricting dogs in these areas will not only reduce quality of life for dogs and their families and block off access to the lakefront... but may also have a negative impact on New Eastside /Lakeshore East /East Loop Chicago neighborhood by reducing the attractiveness to live here.
AS PER THE CHICAGO PARK DISTRICT CODE, DOGS MAY BE BROUGHT INTO PARKS (EXCLUDING GARDENS, PLAYGROUNDS, ATHLETIC FIELDS, BUILDINGS, POOLS, ZOOS), AS LONG AS THEY ARE CONTINUALLY RESTRAINED BY A LEASH NOT EXCEEDING SIX FEET IN LENGTH.
Throughout public hearings during the planning of Maggie Daley Park, Park District officials confirmed that dogs would continue to be allowed, once reopened. Recently, the Chicago Park District officials reneged on their commitment to allow leashed dogs in these areas.
Please sign and encourage others to support that the Chicago Park District allow leashed dogs in Maggie Daley Park - North Grant Park including the paths adjacent to Cancer Survivor’s Garden and Peanut Park.
