USDA recklessly poisons wildlide with Compound 1080 and Sodium Cyanide for the benefit of special interest groups. Animals that come into contact with the poisons, results in deaths or severe injuries to birds of prey, coyotes, foxes, bears, wolves, mounian lions, domestic dogs and even humans.
A bill, Compound 1080 and Sodium Cyanide Elimination Act (H.R. 5643), was introducced Jun 30, 2010 and assigned to a Committee on Energy and Commerce on March 20, 2012, which will consider it before possibly sending it on to the House or Senate as a whole.
We urge you to support the Compound 1080 and Sodium Cyanide Elimination Act (H.R. 5643). In a cruel and imprecise attempt to protect livestock herds from predators, those two poisons are employed primarily by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Wildlife Services program to kill wolves, coyotes and foxes at the behest of ranchers. Other animals invariably come into contact with the poisons, resulting in deaths or severe injuries to birds of prey, bears, mountain lions, domestic dogs and even humans.
The federal government should not be allowed to continue its reckless poisoning of wildlife to benefit special interests, especially when many effective, cost-efficient and ecologically sound nonlethal alternatives exist.
