Thank President Obama For Saving African Elephants

  • van: Lynn Hamilton

It's been a long time coming, but Africa's elephants are now a little safer from poaching. Thanks to the Obama administration, it is now basically illegal to sell any kind of ivory in the United States.

In the past three years, close to 100,000 elephants were killed for no reason but to harvest their tusks and sell the ivory. And this comes at a time when elephant populations are dwindling. Making ivory sales mostly illegal in the US will substantially reduce the demand for ivory, making elephant murder less profitable. No longer will it be easy for poachers to pass off new ivory trinkets as "antiques." Please join me in thanking President Barack Obama for taking this important step in protecting the world's remaining elephants.

Dear President Obama:

I cannot thank you enough for making ivory sales mostly illegal in the United States. This is a huge step in protecting elephants in Asian and Africa. Elephants are killed because of the demand for ivory. We have no wild elephants in the  US, but our actions still affect wildlife all over the world. Blocking sales of ivory in the US has the potential to curb elephant murder in two continents. Please accept the thanks of everyone who signs this petition.
