Forest fires in Brazil grew alarmingly throughout 2020 in almost all biomes, according to information recorded by the Queimadas Program of the National Institute for Special Research (Inpe).
The Amazon, the Pantanal, the Cerrado and the Atlantic Forest are burning burn. These extremely rich and unique biomes are increasingly threatened.
Many animals are dying, large areas of vegetation are devastated.
The action that led to the fires is criminal. These areas are threatened by various groups, such as land grabbers, farmers, loggers and miners.
The international community must fierfully pressure the Brazilian government to come up with an effective response to this calamity situation and must also severely punish the culprits! The devastation in Brazil must stop!
